Unveiling ceremony for a historic UN flag

On 23 October, the UNMCK hosted an unveiling ceremony for a historic UN flag, which once belonged to UNC Commander Gen. Douglas MacArthur and flew over his wartime headquarters, and had recently undergone preservation treatment.
The unveiling was attended by the members of the Commission for the UNMCK: French Ambassador and CUNMCK Chairman H.E. Philippe Lefort, UNMCK Custodian Younsoo Lee, Canadian Ambassador H.E. Michael Danagher, the Netherlands’ Ambassador H.E. Joane Doornewaard, Norwegian Ambassador H.E. Frode Solberg, South African Ambassador H.E. Zenani Dlamini, Turkish Ambassador H.E. Ersin Ercin, New Zealand Ambassador H.E. Philip Turner, British Ambassador H.E. Simon Smith, Australia’s Defense Attache Col. Nick Bolton, and US Consul Mr. Daniel Gedacht.

Preservationists repaired cleaned the flag and repaired some of the damaged sections. They also reinforced it with silk organza to prevent further deterioration. Silk organza is a sheer fabric that stabilizes the material while allowing easy viewing of the original material.
