Burial Story

Capt Buchanan was the cousin of 2nd Lt Buchanan, both of whom went to Rugby school and who died within three weeks of each other in September 1950.  He also attended Cargillfield Preparatory School in Edinburgh and previously served in Palestine with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.  The son of Lt-Col Edmund and Doreen Buchanan of Stirling, Scotland. When seriously injured, he ordered his men to withdraw, leaving him alone with his batman, Pte Taylor, also buried in the UNMCK. For his herosim he was awarded the US Silver Star, the citation reading, "The gallantry displayed by Captain Buchanan on this occasion reflects great credit on himself, his unit and the Military Service."
