A tribute to John my brother - It is just 2 years ago, that Pam my eldest daughter, and I visited your grave in the U.N. Cemetary in Busan. This was a very emotional and poignant time for us. Our first visit to Korea, and it was just great to spend time with you - plenty of tears and a time to share memories, tell a few stories, etc. It was just like yesterday when you walked out of our home, to go as a U,N soldier to Korea, and then be killed on the eve of your return home. Our trip was arranged and sponsered by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Republic of Korea, and we were part of a International group of bereaved families of the U.N. Allied Forces of the Korean war back in 1950. We all shared a common bond, the loss of a loved one, many mixed emotions, the sympathy given and expressed in different languages, just being at the graveside of our loved ones in a foriegn land. We also were a witness to the gratitude of the Korean people, for the U.N. soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice of their life for the freedom of their land. Now on the anniversary of your death 4/11/54 we salute you for the sacrifice you made. Your passing has left a huge gap in your New Zealand family but memories still linger on. Today we remember your passing. Loving thoughts your brother Doug and neice Pam.
