Dear Korean War Veterans Hello, I am Hareen Oh, an 18 year old student in South Korea. These days many countries around the world including South Korea are having difficulties due to the COVID-19 a.k.a Corona Virus. Students in Korea can’t go to school and all the classes have been exchanged to online classes. Some academies are still closed, and many people try to stay home all day. I only go outside twice a week for my academy, and even when I do go out, I wear a mask and take a hand sanitizer with me all the time. I really want to go to school and meet my friends, or at least go outside and meet some people. I was so depressed, so I started to call my friends on Skype to “meet” them online. After living like that for about a month, my house started to feel stuffy. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I went for a walk on a small hill-like mountain near my house. I still had to wear a mask, but it still felt refreshing to walk through the cool breeze and smell the scent of the grass and trees. Cherry blossoms, forsythias, azaleas and many other flowers were blooming, so it was very beautiful and healing. There weren’t many people on the mountain, so I think I might go for a walk once in a while. But still, I think it is best for the Corona Virus to disappear so that everyone can go back to their ordinary lives. I feel very sorry when I get alarms that there are more people who have been tested positive, and when there are more people who have passed away due to the virus. But I know the people of the Korean Government Public Health Authority are working day and night in order to solve the problem and save more lives. I will also try my best to not get the disease by washing my hands frequently and by always wearing a mask. I hope you will wash your hands frequently and always wear a mask too. I don’t really know the current situation of your country, but I hope it isn’t too bad, and I hope that you are safe. You helped our country by fighting during the Korean War, which helped Korea to grow into a strong country it is today. So as much as I am worried about you, I am also very thankful for your efforts and courage. I think you are very warm hearted and brave to come to a whole different country and help out the people. If I were you, I wouldn’t have been able to be that courageous and strong enough to volunteer for the war. I haven’t experienced the Korean War, but I think the war would have been much more disastrous than the current situation. You overcame that bravely, so I think you can overcome this difficulty easily too! Thank you again, and I really hope you take care and stay safe. Sincerely, Hareen Oh
