UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

On 8 October, the German ambassador to Korea H.E. Stephan Aeur and a multinational delegation visited the UNMCK to raise the German flag in the UNMCK’s Symbolic Area.

In May 1953, Germany sent a field hospital to support UN forces in the Korean War, and this hospital operated under the name of the West German Red Cross Hospital from May 1954 to March 1959. Though Germany was not initially included in the group of nations formally recognized as “Supporting states” of the Korean War, in June 2018 the ROK government reclassified Germany as a supporting state in recognition of their assistance.
