On Christmas Day 1950, a group of Australians at Uijongbu, 10 km north of Seoul, gather around a small campfire to ward off the extreme cold. At that time, the allied line was back in South Korea, with 3RAR defending the approaches north of Seoul. Resting among the coals of the fire, a small billy (container with water for making tea) is on the boil and next to it a bucket of what may be washing-up water. The soldier in the centre with a pair of gloves in his hands and one foot extended towards the fire is Staff Sergeant Kevin Lundy. He is turning towards Staff Sergeant Vince Bennett, who is hatless and has his thumbs hooked into his belt. (AWM P01813.471, photographer Ian Robertson)
