친애하는 룩셈부르크의 참전용사들께
오늘 우리는 룩셈부르크 참전용사들께 애도와 감사를 표하고자 합니다. 우리는 부경대학교의 UN 지지자입니다.
대한민국의 자유와 평화를 지키기 위해 물러서지 않은 룩셈부르크 참전용사들의 용기에 감사드립니다. 여러분의 헌신 덕분에 대한민국은 이제 평화와 자유를 가질 수 있게 되었습니다.
룩셈부르크는 1950년에 전투병을 파병하였으며, 룩셈부르크 역사상 처음이자 마지막 파병이었습니다. 참전국 중 가장 소규모 파병국이었기에 벨기에군 보병 대대 내에 편성하였습니다.
룩셈부르크는 벨기에와 함께, 정의의 십자군으로 부산에 도착한 후 전곡, 철원, 금화 등지에서 치열한 전투를 치루었습니다. 또한 서울 탈환 작전에 참가했고, 임진강 전투에 참전해 중공군의 공세를 막아내기도 하였습니다.
총 100명이 참전하였고 그 중 전사자 2명, 부상자 13명이 발생했습니다. 룩셈부르크는 한국 전쟁 당시 총 병력이 약 700명이었기 때문에 병력 대비 사상자의 비율이 전체 유엔군 중 가장 높았습니다.
하지만 파병이 결정되었을 시 많은 청년들이 한국전 참전을 지원하였고 결국 약 10:1의 치열한 경쟁을 물리친 일부 청년들만이 한국에 갈 수 있었다고 합니다.
다시 한 번, 전혀 알지 못하는 나라와 만난 적이 없는 민족을 지키기 위해 생사의 갈림길에서 대한민국을 위해 싸워주신 참전용사 여러분께 감사드립니다. 형언할 수 없는 감사함이 여러분에게 전달되는 그날까지 우리는 기억하고 노력할 것입니다.
우리는 오늘날 우리가 우리에게 바친 숭고한 헌신에 깊은 감사와 존경을 표합니다. 우리가 현재를 살 수 있게 해주셔서 감사합니다. 우리는 영원히 기억할 것입니다.
Dear, Veterans of Luxembourg
Today, I would like to express my condolences and thanks in front of the tombstone of a Dutch veteran. We are UN supporters of Pukyong University. We want to pay tribute to all the dedication you have made. I know all your efforts have been valuable, and I also know that your efforts will never be forgotten in our hearts. Currently, we live in a peaceful Korea thanks to your sacrifice.
The Netherlands first dispatched the destroyer Eversen, which was anchored in Indonesia, and then sent an additional 646-member Dutch battalion in response to a strong demand from the Dutch people and the media. The Dutch army fought fiercely in the sea and land of Korea and maintained the troops of one destroyer and one battalion of ground forces until the end of the war. At sea, it was deployed to patrol missions, special patrols, and convoys of landing troops, and it also showed its fighting spirit in Hoengseong and Wonju. When the Armistice Agreement came into effect on July 27, 1953, it protected our country until the end by occupying the areas expected to take place in advance and installing bunkers and tactical barbed wire.
Again, I sincerely appreciate your efforts and dedication to make this country a peaceful land. We will continue to remember you and try to preserve this country peacefully. We will inform many people of your commitment through the activities of U.N. supporters. And this effort won't stop and will continue over time. Thank you. I'll remember.
