존경하는 미국 참전 용사님들께,

안녕하십니까.
부경대학교 UN 서포터즈 16기입니다. UN 서포터즈 단원이자 대한민국 국민으로서, 한국전쟁 당시 용감하게 싸워 주신 미국 참전용사분들께 깊은 감사와 존경의 마음을 전하고자 합니다. 여러분이 대한민국의 평화와 자유를 지키기 위해 먼 이국의 땅에서 목숨을 바쳐 헌신해주지 않으셨다면, 오늘날의 대한민국은 존재할 수 없었을 것입니다.

북한의 남침 소식을 접한 미국은 유엔군 파견국 중 가장 많은 병력인 180만 명을 파견하였습니다. 특히, 더글라스 맥아더 장군이 이끄는 미군은 인천 상륙작전을 성공적으로 이끌어 전세를 역전시키며, 대한민국의 운명을 바꾸는 중요한 전환점을 만들었습니다. 또한, 미군은 장진호 전투와 임진강 전투 등에서 핵심적인 역할을 하였고, 극한의 상황 속에서도 한국을 지키기 위한 싸움을 계속했습니다. 미 공군은 북한의 군사 시설과 보급선을 차단하여 북한군의 진격을 저지했으며, 미 해군은 해상에서 전략적 지원을 아끼지 않았습니다.

이 과정에서 약 38,000명의 미군이 전사하고, 수많은 병사들이 부상을 입었습니다. 그들의 희생 덕분에 오늘날 한국은 자유와 평화를 누리고 있습니다. 이 고귀한 희생에 깊이 감사드리며, 그 어떤 말로도 그 고마움을 다 표현할 수 없음을 잘 알고 있습니다.

여러분의 용기와 희생은 단순히 한국을 지키기 위한 것이 아니라, 자유와 민주주의의 가치를 지키기 위한 것이었습니다. 여러분의 헌신은 지금도 많은 사람들에게 큰 귀감이 되고 있습니다. 다시 한 번, 깊은 감사를 드리며, 앞으로도 이 평화를 지켜 나갈 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다.

To the Honorable American Veterans,

Hello. 
We are the 16th cohort of the Pukyong National University UN Supporters. As members of the UN Supporters and citizens of the Republic of Korea, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and deepest respect to the American veterans who bravely fought during the Korean War. Without your sacrifices and dedication to protecting the peace and freedom of Korea on foreign soil, the Korea we know today would not exist. 

When North Korea launched its invasion, the United States deployed 1.8 million troops—the largest contribution among the UN forces. Under the leadership of General Douglas MacArthur, the U.S. military successfully turned the tide of the war with the Incheon Landing Operation, a decisive turning point that reshaped Korea’s destiny. Additionally, American forces played pivotal roles in battles such as the Battle of Chosin Reservoir and the Battle of Imjin River. Even under extreme conditions, they relentlessly fought to defend Korea. The U.S. Air Force disrupted North Korea’s military facilities and supply lines, halting their advance, while the U.S. Navy provided crucial strategic support at sea. 

During these efforts, approximately 38,000 U.S. soldiers gave their lives, and countless others were wounded. It is thanks to their sacrifices that Korea today enjoys peace and freedom. We deeply appreciate this noble sacrifice, fully aware that no words can ever truly convey our gratitude. 

Your courage and sacrifices were not solely for the defense of Korea but also for the protection of the values of freedom and democracy. Your dedication continues to inspire many people even now. Once again, we offer our profound gratitude and pledge to do our part in preserving this peace for the future.
