Burial Story

Captain Nortje and Lt. Moir were briefed to conduct a bomb line patrol. They arrived over Chorwan at an altitude of 10,000ft where they commenced their patrol. They flew to a position south of the “double-bend” on the lmjin where they turned and flew back over Chorwan, on to Kumwa, towards a position north of the Hwachon reservoir. They went down to identify a light aircraft which Mortje identified as an L-19 of the Repuvlic of Korea Air Force. They then spotted another unidentified aircraft, which turned out to bea US Navy spotter aircraft. Moir followed another aircraft, which turned out to be a Skyraider, and was shot down by another or the American flight. Later on Christmas Day, some of the American Skyraider pilots came across to the SAAF base to pay their respects and offer their condolences, which were accepted in good spirit by Moir’s shaken comrades.
