Burial Story

Pte Freakley was the son of Jack and Harriet (nee Meigh) Freakley, born in Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. He attended St Peter's Church of England School in Stoke and worked as an apprentice plumber. He volunteered for the army in 1948 and was among the first British soldiers to arrive in Korea. He was said to have been killed while covering the withdrawal of UN forces from the North, which is consistent with his unidentified remains being returned in Operation Glory in autumn 1952.
