Most Koreans say the number of countries who helped Korea during the war is 16, the nations who provided military assistance. However, Denmark, India,Italy, Norway and Sweden must not be forgotten as helpers of Korea. Those are the nations who provided medical assistance during the Korean War.
In all, they had installed around one thousand beds, provided about 800 medical staff and much of the medical supplies, and saved thousands of the wounded.
Since Norway suffered three casualties from the war and one of them has remained interred at the UNMCK, the Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit visited the UNMCK and paid tribute on 18 May. For the occasion, a posthumous daughter and a grand-daughter of the fallen who made home at the UNMCK, Ms. Nora Sandaas, also accompanied them from Norway.
It was just impossible to imagine the feelings running through the daughter upon her visiting the grave of her father, who she has never met but only seen his pictures.
