UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

Dear Unknown Veterans Hello, I'm a 16 years old student from South Korea, Garam Lee. I live in Seoul, the capital city of S. Korea with my 5 family members. I’m writing this letter in order to appreciate your sacrifice during the Korean war and it’s a great honor to write to you. To express the Korean war in a word, I would say “tragedy”. It made people to pull the triggers each other and many of them passed away or injured. Korea had divided into two different countries because of the war, and nowadays it is the only country not unified around the world. Both countries, South and North Korea had been trying to be closer for about 50 years, and we are getting closer and closer each other. Last year, there were three conferences between the both countries’ representatives. They talked about N. Korea’s nuclear disarmament and Korea’s peace. On the first conference, the N. Korea’s representative, Jung Eun, Kim has crossed the military demarcation line with our president Jae In Moon. Also, they declared “The Panmunjom Declaration”, which made Korea more peaceful. They appointed that they would connect the train rails and roads as well. The second conference was held on panmunjom again after a month exactly. I think it was a very meaningful conference because they didn’t prepare a lot to meet each other to discuss about Korea. They were able to solve some misunderstandings by communication. On September of the same year, the third conference was held in PyeongYang which is the capital of N. Korea. The representatives had a meeting once more and they declared “Pyeongyang joint Declaration”. I was surprised about the fact that the S. Korea president, Moon went to PyeongYang. He stayed there for 3 days & 2 nights and I got amazed once more. I could realize that our relationship was getting better and the unification is not that far. My garandpa said “ Wow, We are getting closer and closer ” and I think he was impressed about the relationship. By the way, there were a few conferences between USA and N. Korea from last year. The first and second meeting were not very successful compared to the third one. They made a great result on the third meeting that was held in this year. It was held by Donald Trump’s SNS post which suggests Jung Eun Kim to meet on Panmunjom. Fortunately, Kim saw the post and they had met on Panmunjom on the following day. It was an amazing moment when Trump and Kim crossed over the military demarcation line together. Trump had become the first president who walked on the N. Korea’s territory ever. In addition, our president Moon, also joined this meeting and it became a historical meeting. It was the first time that S. Korea, N. Korea, and USA representatives met altogether. More surprisingly, Trump & Kim had talked each other for about an hour and this was the longest conference that they had ever. At the moment that the three countries’ representatives held their hands together, my parents and I noticed that the unification of Korea is not too far away and my grandpa concurred about it as well. He said that we would be a unified country in the near future. To conclude, there were some movements among three countries for the world peace and Korea’s peace. I know that all these peaceful atmosphere were made from your noble devotion. In the flare of the war, your braveness and sacrifice had saved us from death. I feel very thankful every time I think of your achievement that you had saved us. S. Korea had developed a lot and I really want to show you this surprising landscape of Seoul. If you have not helped us, the appearance of S. Korea nowadays would not be like this. I was surprised with your choice that you decided to come to my country to fight for us giving up your youth. I’m sure that I could not decide to give up my youth to sacrifice like you. I really respect you and thank you about all your achievements.
