What We Need in a Time Like This

Dear Brave Sir, I think it's been a while since I wrote a letter to you. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been really good for me these days. In fact, I don’t think that the world has been pleasant to anybody these days. You would probably know why. The novel corona virus that started from China has been wreaking havoc in the world. There is no cure, and the spreading is rapid, so almost everyone is working hard to make sure there are as less casualties as possible. I just hope you’re okay and healthy. After all, I could be doing a completely different thing if it wasn’t for you. Thank you, sir. I just thought maybe you could be curious about what’s going on in the country you saved. It’s not that bad. We’re trying our best to keep social distance. Patients are still increasing, but it’s not as bad as it used to be. People wear masks all the time if they go outdoors, and all the places that were full of people are now empty. Oh, and all the schools were closed and out winter break was getting extended on and on. Korean students study a lot during vacation, due to the school fever, which is unusually high. It’s not that different with my case. I was really getting tired of the 2 months of unstopping studies. When the government announced extending the winter vacation, I was kind of devastated. Of course, I’m quite worried about my health in such a situation. I stay at home most of the time, and it’s not really that nice. I can’t meet my friends, and I need my outdoor activities. I hope I can get back to school, yet I can’t deny the fact that I’m still not sure if it’s safe enough to go to a place with such dense population. Well, it looks like it became a summary of my everyday life rather than the current status of our country. I just think that this may be a happy (maybe not so happy) complaint possible thanks to you. What we need in a time like this is probably love for other people, caring for other people. I love the Harry Potter series, and a wise wizard in there is a real supporter of love. Maybe you could try to read it when you have time. Although it’s for kids, it’s not that childish. Anyways, if we truly care for each other and love our neighbors, maybe we should keep distance for the sake of their health. We should try out best to not make our loved ones catch the virus. I think it was what you did best. You cared for those in need of help. It’s the kind of thing we desperately need now. I just hope that you are perfectly healthy. Please be okay. I still need to thank you a hundred times more, and I’m not just about to stop right now. So, stay well until I write another letter to you! Lots of love, Bakkyeom, a Korean student.
