According to the UNMCK Office, the works to replace the grave’s cement base built in 1960s with black granite will be complete in this upcoming August.
A UNMCK official said, “This project to replace cement with granite started because the grave cement bases are less than appropriate for the fallen who fought for peace and freedom of Korea.”
There are two holes on the newly installed grave stone: one for a small national flag and the other for a flower. The existing grave plaques will be put on the new stones.
Placing a photo of the interred had been considered but rejected--the Commission agreed that it would not be such a good idea.
