On 2 October 1950, 3RAR mounted its first operational patrols and the following day suffered its first casualties. The 27th Brigade then moved into North Korea, and on 29 October reached Chongju, the most northerly point of its advance. In this image taken during that month, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Hercules Green (left), Commanding Officer 3RAR, and his Intelligence Officer, Lieutenant Alfred Argent, discuss the tactical situation. Colonel Green was mortally wounded by a shell fragment on 30 October and died of his wounds on 2 November. (AWM 044768)
