I’ve learned about South Africa’s role in the Korean War, and I feel proud but also saddened. Our country sent brave soldiers to help fight for peace, and some of them never came home.
Even though the war was far away, their sacrifice reminds us that freedom often comes at a great cost. We remember and honour those South Africans who gave their lives. Their courage will never be forgotten.
I believe it’s very important for us to remember the veterans—not just to honour their sacrifice, but to remind the world of the terrible destruction and loss that war brings.
War takes lives, separates families, and leaves deep scars that last for generations. By remembering the past, we can show the world why peace matters and why war must be avoided at all costs.
Let’s not forget.
