UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

Dear, Korean War Veteran! Hello, I am Kitae Bae from South Korea. I am a 14 years old middle school student, and I decided to write this letter to appreciate for your sacrifice. Due to your devotion, Korea looks like this currently. South Korea is even at the 11th place on the rank of economic power now. Without your sacrifice, Korea and every public of South Korea, including me would not have been here. You are our country’s best heroes. A surprising fact is that your devotion is even influencing to these days. Now, I am going to talk about these impacts. Lately at June 30, North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un and America’s president, Donald Trump met together at Panmunjeom, and Donald Trump became the first America president to step on North Korea territory. However, this is not the end. Do you know what is extremely unique? First of all, America and North Korea are the two countries that are directly involved in the Korean War and they are the countries that signed for the ceasefire agreement. So easily, their relationship wasn’t good enough. But in the midst of this, the two leaders met together. Next, the place they met was panmunjeom. However, panmunjeom is the place that represents division, and the ceasefire agreement was also concluded at here. The meeting place was also very meaningful. Finally, this meeting’s purpose was to accomplish nuclear disarmament, and to build peace between the three countries, South Korea, North Korea, and America. This conference was never simple! As I said before, without you, South Korea would have been vanished by North Korea. However by your sacrifice, now the two nation’s relationship is steadily becoming better and maybe we might even be unified. After a few days later, South Korea’s president, Mun Jae-In also included in this meeting and added power for peace. This was also a historic moment. This conference was the first time for these three nation’s leaders to meet together in one place. One surprising point in this meeting was that they talked for 48 minutes, which is a very long time. Many people predicted that this talk will only take about 2 to 4 minutes but this meeting was an exception. The June Singapore conference consumed 38 minutes, and the February Hanoi conference consumed 35 minutes. Comparing to these two conferences, this meeting was very long. Now I will tell about the realizations. First of all, I will tell about my feelings. I already knew that Koreans should appreciate war veterans, including you. However, today at last, I learned that your devotion is also affecting on these days very much. Starting from today, my idol will be you. Also, I will work hard to let every single person in Korea know about the Korean war veterans including you. Here are my mom’s feelings. She said “Think about how our family exists. One of the people that made us alive are the war veterans, so never forget them and try hard to become a person like them.” This word gave me a deep impression. Again thank you!!
