UNMCK - UNITED NATIONS MEMORIAL CEMETERY IN KOREA

Dear all Korean War Veterans Hello to all the heroes who helped Korea. I’m Jiwon Lee, 17, from Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies located in Korea. To introduce more about my life, I belong to a club name ‘C.C.’, abbreviation of Creative Campaign. It is a school club which is mainly engaged in informing catastrophes of Korean War and the commitments made by Korean War Veterans, by campaigns or fund raising activities. I sincerely pledge allegiance to all the brave veterans, who helped Korea to exist in 21st century. You are the ones who saved our lives, without doubt. Dedications made were never meaningless but priceless hope to our ancestors. The purpose of my letter is to sincerely thank you, also to your families and tell you that Korea exists due to your devotion. From my young age, probably since kindergarten, I have known the terrible remains of the Korean War. Since it has not been a century from the disaster, I usually hear the horrible scenes from my great grandparents, grandparents and even from my school teachers. Moreover, I learn the stories regarding Korean War in school I want to tell you one of the stories I learned. It was a story from Korean text book, name ‘Stake of mother’. To introduce a brief story, mother, the main character, suffered from her son’s terrible death. She lost her son during the Korean War. Her son was one of the commandeered, and escaped from the group. He had to hide and protect himself from other soldiers, who were looking for him to kill. Mother wanted her son to be safe and concealed her son. When the soldier came to her house to find her son, she ceaselessly said that she doesn’t have a son and no man is in her house. However, the soldier started to conduct a search and finally found her son. Without hesitation, the soldier immediately killed her son with gun. Mother quivered with rage and begged the soldier to kill her too. After decades, one day, she trembled with fear in her hospital room. Her daughter was worried and did not know the reason why her mother was going crazy. But soon, by listening to her sleeptalking, she realized that her mother was dreaming about the disaster of the day her son passed away. Her mother was literally going crazy. She hurt her leg and was placed in hospital room, under ether. During her medication, unbearable fear attacked her like a swirling storm, and she could not endure the pain again. She shuddered so terribly that her medical instruments fell out from her body and her blood was coming out, wetting the white bed. Doctors tied her, but she even broke the chain, by her own will. By this story, I could learn about the horrible scene of the Korean War and really wanted to thank to all the people who bravely participated in the Korean War. Again, I sincerely thank to all the Korean War Veterans, for your dedication. Koreans will always remember and thank to the devotions you made.
